About Tape Artist Kayt Hester

Kayt Hester creates intricate images with shreds of hand torn black masking tape. She has been a staple of the Jersey City Arts scene for over 25 years. As written in the Jersey City Times by Tris McCall, “Kayt Hester is probably one of the best-known visual artists in Jersey City, and for very good reason: using little more than black tape stuck on a white background, she summons scenes of great emotional intensity and narrative detail.” Kayt's work has been displayed all over the world in top galleries and museums. She has been featured in Bust, Nylon and Jersey Best Magazine. She was chosen by the Pixies to do the background stage art for their Surfer Rosa 30th anniversary tour.  She lives in Jersey City, New Jersey with her fiancé Alex and their cat Harry.
